Photocatalytic fuel cell – A review

Photocatalytic oxidation has been widely investigated and applied to perform degradation of organic pollutants in water air. In recent technological advancement, photocatalysis (PC) is integrated into fuel cell (FC) form photocatalytic (PFC) for simultaneous wastewater treatment production electricity. the PFC mechanisms, pollutant, acting as a component, decomposed upon light activation at photoanode flow photoexcited electrons driven by potential difference between two electrodes. Thus, unwanted electron-hole recombination effectively inhibited, resulting enhanced PC activity. other words, chemical energy stored pollutant recovered converted useful electricity during process. The photoelectrochemical technology can also be implemented hydrogen generation carbon dioxide reduction. Various strategies have improving mechanisms through better visible-light photoelectrodes, innovative designs, dual-photoelectrode setup, well optimal control. this review, fundamentals development will discussed with special attention novel configurations. With knowledge understanding PFC, we identify promising research directions further develop technologies.
